Getafe

Consistency of results has never been a hallmark of the "azulons", and, frankly, it should not surprise anyone. It is as much a part of José Bordalas' team as their persistent style of play. However, despite dropping points in most of their matches, the Madrid side from the suburbs have more wins than more than half of the La Liga clubs. After a third of the season, they are hovering close to the European qualification spots, tied for 7th-8th place with Athletic Bilbao and just one point ahead of the five-team group chasing them, including their future rivals.

Two of Getafe's five wins have come in the opening rounds, with away wins over Celta and Sevilla (both in that group). The third win came in their first home match of the season against Oviedo (2–0) in the fourth round. A five-match winless run followed, in which they only managed two points, but the end of October brought a turning point: a 1-0 win in Bilbao over Athletic, a 2-1 home win over Girona and a stunning 11-0 rout of the amateurs in the Copa del Rey. However, before the international break, they lost 0-1 to Mallorca and then suffered the same scoreline at home to Atletico. It was a particularly bitter defeat, sealed by an 82nd-minute own goal from Domingos Duarte. So now the Azulóns are looking for redemption and a return to winning ways.

Elche

Eder Sarabia's team have made a surprisingly strong start to the season, creating a historic seven-match unbeaten run in the league. It is clear that the newcomers to La Liga boast better quality than many of the top-flight teams and, most importantly, they have real potential. However, the Franchiverdes have not won a league game in two months. Their third win of the campaign came against Celta Vigo at the end of September, and since then they have only managed one triumph, in the Copa del Rey, where they defeated fifth-tier Los Garres 4-0.

Elche's first league defeat came before the October international break, when they were beaten 3-1 by Alaves in Vitoria. After a two-week break, they played a solid home game against Athletic Bilbao, but were content with a goalless draw. Then came a cup victory between two defeats in Barcelona: first 0-1 at Espanyol, then 1-3 at the city's own club. Before the final break in the national team's game, Sarabia's men unfortunately lost a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad, conceding a late penalty. And last weekend, Elche looked strong against league leaders Real Madrid, but again drew 2-2. The hosts took the lead twice thanks to goals from Aleix Febas and Alvaro Rodríguez, both graduates of the Blancos academy (the preparation for the first match was excellent), but the visitors equalised each time from set pieces. On the one hand, it's a painful loss of points; on the other, it's a decent result with a strong performance against a much stronger opponent by default. Another tough test awaits, where space and freedom in attack will be lacking.

Getafe vs. Elche: Predicted Lineups

Getafe will be without central defender Abdel Abkar and midfielder Mario Martin due to yellow card suspensions, as well as injured left-back Da Vinci. Elche have central defender Victor Hust suspended after receiving a red card against Real Madrid, but there are no injuries. However, the participation of versatile winger Josan remains questionable.

Getafe vs. Elche: Author's Prediction

Somewhat surprisingly, Getafe have never beaten Elche at home in La Liga. Four of the five previous meetings at the Coliseum ended in draws, with the visitors winning just one by a narrow margin. Given the current form and the teams' capabilities, this series could continue, but Getafe are rightly considered the favorites and could well secure a historic victory. I'm again betting on both teams to score in a game involving Azulones. Furthermore, three of the last five head-to-head meetings have ended 1-1.
