Canada vs Qatar: Betting Odds

In Group B, all four teams have the same number of points and goal difference after the first round. While Bosnia and Herzegovina's draw with Canada came as no surprise, Switzerland's draw with Qatar was one of the first surprises of the tournament. Bookmakers still rate Switzerland as the group winner, with Canada in second place and Bosnia in third. However, after just one round, it seems premature to identify the favorites and underdogs. The teams look closer in quality than expected, and it remains unclear whether Switzerland or Canada will improve their results or whether this is their true level.

In the Canada-Qatar match, the hosts are clear favorites thanks to a stronger squad and home support in Vancouver. The odds reflect this view: a Canada win is priced at 1.30, a draw at 5.50, and a Qatar win is available at 11.00.

The teams have met once before, in a friendly match in 2022 in preparation for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Canada won convincingly with a score of 2-0.

Canada

The draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina was not a big surprise. Despite a talented squad, Canada lacks a true leader who can take charge and lead the team forward, especially among the younger players. Significantly, Mallorca's 31-year-old forward Cile Larin (who is set to join Southampton in July) scored the only goal, coming off the bench in the 76th minute, and finished the game as Canada's best player. Notably, the defense and goalkeeper received the highest marks.

Canada finally broke its losing streak at the World Cup, but the result was not particularly comforting. Fans had hoped the tournament would mark a breakthrough with a quarter-final berth, but the opening game showed that was unlikely. The next round offers a chance to advance, although an early exit cannot be ruled out.

Qatar

Qatar pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the first round, drawing with Switzerland. The team is one of the weakest in the tournament. In contrast to Cape Verde's more defensive approach, Qatar played openly and still managed to get a point. Their defenders made numerous mistakes, but the team conceded only once. They pulled a late goal (credited to a Swiss defender) and held on. Fortune favored the brave, and Qatar took advantage of their rare chance.

Like Canada, Qatar avoided defeat at the World Cup for the first time. To make a real impression and advance to the playoffs, the team must beat either Canada or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Canada vs Qatar: Author's Prediction

A low scoring match looks likely, although bookmakers are leaning towards over 2.5 goals. Canada has the firepower to score two or three goals, but Qatar will prioritize defense. Expect a game similar to Switzerland vs Qatar, with limited scoring. Under 3 seems like the right choice.
