Mallorca

We are approaching the halfway point of the season and Jagoba Arrasate's team have only won three games. This leaves them in the bottom half of the La Liga table, just two points above the relegation zone. A tight schedule meant their first win didn't come until the seventh matchday, when they defeated Alaves 1-0 at home. The Islanders then picked up their first away win of the season, coming back to beat Sevilla 3-1. Their third success came just before the November international break, another narrow home win, this time against a solid Getafe side.

After the league resumed, Mallorca suffered a disappointing 2-1 away defeat to Villarreal, but they looked set to bounce back in their next home match against Osasuna. Arrasate's current side dominated his former club and built a two-goal lead but were unable to hold on, levelling at 2-2 after the visitors scored in injury time. In the last round, the Balearic side were held to a goalless draw away to Oviedo, who have not won since the change of manager but are difficult to beat and have kept clean sheets at home of late. It was a classic, fruitless stalemate, although the visitors gained a numerical advantage late on - with little time to exploit it.

Elche

Eder Sarabia's side started the season on a seven-game unbeaten run: three home wins and four draws. Two of those wins came against fellow La Liga newcomers Levante and Oviedo, as well as a 2-1 win over Celta. However, this run was replaced by a seven-match unbeaten run, yielding just three points. All of them came at home – a 0-0 draw with Atlético, a crushing 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad (missing a penalty late in the game) and a spirited 2-2 draw with Real Madrid, where Sarabia's men often looked more willing.

But their last four away trips have brought nothing but disappointment for the Franchiverdes fans – four consecutive defeats. Their first defeat of the season was a 3-1 defeat to Alaves in Vitoria. Then came two defeats in Barcelona: 1-0 to Espanyol and 3-1 to the current league leaders (who were second at the time), and then a 1-0 defeat to Getafe in late November. Last week, Sarabia's team needed extra time to beat little-known Quintanar in the Spanish Cup, but a few days later they defeated Girona 3-0 at home, thanks to a brace from Rafa Mir and a stunning team goal from German Valera. The difference could have been more or less if not for the glaring errors from the Catalan goalkeeper, which Mir took advantage of twice. Mallorca v Elche: Predicted Line-ups Mallorca will be without key midfielder Sam Kosca through suspension, and have also lost captain and centre-back Antonio Raillo until the end of the year. There is also uncertainty over goalkeeper Leo Roman, defender Toni Lato and attacking midfielder Pablo Torre. As for Elche, there are no injuries, but Grady Diangan and Andre Silva are questionable.

Mallorca vs. Elche: Author's Prediction

Mallorca lost their first home game of the season to Barcelona but have not lost at Son Moix since then, winning two and drawing four in six games. Elche, meanwhile, drew their first three away games but lost their next four, extending their two-game away run. However, Franchiverdes are unbeaten in their last four La Liga meetings with the Islanders, taking four points from two home games and two away games. Sarabia's side are in good form at the moment, so they could well continue that streak. However, I'm leaning towards a draw rather than an away win. On the other hand, a narrow home win wouldn't surprise me either.
