Getafe
"Azulones" delighted their fans with high results for almost two months before the international break. José Bordalas' team have won five of their seven games, strengthening their position in the table and securing their top-flight survival - their main goal of the season. Given how tight the league table is, this impressive run has transformed the team from the Madrid suburbs into a genuine contender for a place in Europe's competition. However, questions remain as to whether they really need the extra hassle of the Europa League. That requires resources that Getafe simply do not have in abundance. It is no wonder that they have been dropping points more often lately.
Since the league resumed, the Azulonas have confidently won at home against Atlético, but then lost away to Levante, who are desperately trying to hang on. This was followed by a fortuitous 1-0 win in San Sebastian over Real Sociedad - without a single shot on target. Just a few days later, they lost 2-0 at the Coliseum to a clearly stronger Barcelona. The same result was repeated a week later, when Rayo Vallecano, preparing for the second leg of the Conference League semi-final, were happy to take the points, scoring a goal at half-time. However, with the score at 1-0, Mauro Arambarri missed a penalty for the home team.
A few days ago, Bordalas' men failed to score despite numerous chances, but they also kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Oviedo, who finished the game with nine men. Asulones are currently seventh, which would guarantee them a place in the Conference League. But I doubt that is really what the club from the outskirts of Madrid wants. Bordalas insists that his players deserve to be rewarded with European qualification for their efforts. However, he will almost certainly leave in the summer (along with several key players). What else could he have said - that the team will simply play mechanically for the rest of the season?
Mallorca
While Getafe can afford to lose their spirits, the islanders are in the midst of a relegation battle that is approaching the home stretch. With three rounds of matches remaining, Martin Demichelis' team are in 14th-17th place, along with Elche, Espanyol and Girona, just two points above the relegation zone. However, since the change of coach, the Balearic team has noticeably improved its game, giving fans reason for cautious optimism.
Demichelis had a string of results before the break: a disappointing draw in Pamplona, a home win over Espanyol and a defeat at Elche, where Vedat Murici missed a penalty in injury time. However, after the restart, the islanders, and in particular their Kosovo striker, bounced back, beating Real Madrid 2-1 at home with Murici scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute after the visitors had equalised. A week later, Mallorca comfortably defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-0 at home. But a third consecutive home win slipped away. They had chances to beat Valencia but they squandered them, scoring just one goal before the Bats found a response.
A few days later, Demichelis' team lost away to Alaves despite leading at half-time thanks to a stunning goal from Jan Virgil. The Basques picked up momentum after the break and turned the game around. May began with a rather unexpected away win (their second of the season, the first under a new coach) over struggling Girona. Mallorca had never won at Montilvi in La Liga before, but there's always a first time. Samu Costa's only goal late in the first half proved decisive. The fans at the Son Moix stadium had been hoping for another win recently, but the win ended 1-1 in favour of Villarreal. The hosts were the better team overall, creating chances but only scoring once. This goal was essentially gifted to Vedat Murika by the Yellow Submarine goalkeeper just before half-time, even though Mallorca were already losing after a random penalty.

Getafe – Mallorca: Author's Prediction
In the first leg, the islanders won at home 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Vedat Murika, although the visitors had chances to salvage something. Mallorca have also won their last two trips to the Coliseum by a minimal margin, and I believe they have a good chance of continuing that streak with a decisive victory here. At least, I am confident in the motivation of Martin Demichelis' team. The same cannot be said for Jose Bordalas' team, who are considered favorites by the bookmakers. My choice is to go for Mallorca to avoid defeat, even without the suspended Samu Costa, one of their key players.
