October 29, 2025 20:00. Lorient. Stade du Mustoire
Ligue 1. 10th round.

Injured: Fay, Toure, Caceres, Fadiga, Sanoussi - Neves, Ruiz

PSG returned to the top of the standings after the opening round and are now aiming to stay there after the 10th round. Any unexpected shock could derail this, as five teams are only three points behind. However, the Parisians should feel confident ahead of their match against Ligue 1 newcomers Lorient, who have reached the play-offs.

Lorient

Lorient lost 2-0 away to Angers last weekend, underlining that survival is likely to be a key battle for the Merluis this season. Against a team that had previously scored only four goals, Pantaleoni's men conceded twice. The game could have gone differently had Ayegun missed a penalty in the 1-0 win. Overall, there is nothing surprising in this defeat - Lorient have only picked up one point away from home in the opening rounds, drawing with Le Havre. It extends their unbeaten run to three matches, including a 3-3 draw against Brest and a 0-2 defeat at Paris.

However, the hosts can take some comfort: seven of their eight Ligue 1 points this season have come at home, where they have scored 11 goals. That puts them third in the league for goals scored at home. Only Marseille (16) and Monaco (14) can boast a better record, although Lorient's 11 goals conceded - seven of which came in a single match against Lille, all after half-time - make them the division's worst home defence. In fact, only Metz have conceded more overall.

The Merlues pulled off a surprise win over PSG at Parc des Princes in 2023, but the capital team's last visit to Moustoir in April 2024 ended 1-4 in favour of the favourites. So another heavy home defeat this season will come as no surprise.

PSG

PSG enjoyed a historic last season, winning all the domestic titles in France and adding a long-awaited triumph in the Champions League. Enrique's team had little rest in the summer, reaching the Club World Cup final, where they lost to Chelsea, before beating another London club in the UEFA Super Cup. Such a gruelling schedule could not but take its toll on a team that had struggled with injuries to key players early on. They also lost their starting goalkeeper Donnarumma, who was replaced by Chevalier, who, despite his brilliance at Lille, is still adapting and sometimes making mistakes. The same goes for another newcomer, Ilya Zabarny, who has generally settled in well but has made a few mistakes. However, after his red card against Bayer Leverkusen, Enrique brought the Ukrainian back on the pitch and PSG kept a clean sheet against Brest.

This was typical of PSG at the start of the season; especially in the opening rounds, they often won by blocking the defence and scoring 1-2 goals. Think of the victories over Nantes, Angers, Lens and Auxerre. But as the campaign progressed and the stars of the attack returned, things changed. Three goals in the draw with Strasbourg, three against Brest and seven wins over Bayer Leverkusen recently proved it. Their start to the Champions League has been impeccable - three wins out of three - unlike the previous campaign. Even more impressive than the defeats of Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen was the away win over Barcelona, the virtually bottom team of last season. In the league, however, PSG are not quite the invincible force that fans expect.

Nevertheless, their opponents' mistakes have kept them at the top of the table. But the defeat to Marseille at the Velodrome - their first in Ligue 1 since 2011 - plus the draws with Lille and the difficult 3-3 win against Strasbourg stand out. However, after their first away game since mid-August, which broke a brief slump in the league, the Parisians seem ready to keep winning.

Lorient v PSG: Expected Lineups

Fay has served his suspension but is out for Lorient through injury. Also out for the home team are: Toure, Caceres, Fadiga, Sanoussi. Hakimi, who scored twice against Brest, will miss this match as he has been rested. Neves and Ruiz are close to returning but are likely to miss this match.

Lorient v PSG: Author's Prediction

Lorient could score here, but that's it. I expect PSG to secure a second straight away win.
